The Devil Wears AI Too
Change can be scary. It’s full of risks. But with risk comes opportunity to rise above; to do things better than before.
Last night I watched the movie The Devil Wears Prada 2, based on a fashion magazine which has survived by adapting from print to today’s digital world, where the villainous antagonist from the first film becomes more of the antihero or misunderstood leader in the sequel.
While the film touches on numerous themes, such as power, trust, and working women, the biggest issue they tackle is the company take over and the changes that may bring. At one point a potential owner suggests they won’t need photo shoots or models at all. He excitedly tells the editor-in-chief “It can all be done by AI”!
Whilst change may not be so dramatic in your organisation, the world around us is changing fast. You may notice in business and all areas of life that winners take risks, because they see them as opportunities. They realise the flipside to not embrace change is a risk itself.
This doesn’t mean we need to introduce risky behaviour in our organisations. Far from it. But we do need to routinely consider which risks we will and won’t take. Then we start planning them proactively. Change brings consequences that need to be thought out. Stakeholders’ expectations still need to be delivered. Compliance requirements still apply.
🎯 Agility is not just change. It’s all about delivering consistency in better and better ways.
AI is a drain on our natural resources, it’s a drain on our energy sources and our space, and it’s been suggested it is a drain on our brains. Is it the devil? That is a question for a much longer piece.
For now, the race is on. The starter gun went off years ago. The question is are you in active wear or high heels?
